Using Mobile Phone Messaging as a Response Medium in Classroom Experiments
Cheung, Stephen L., "Using Mobile Phone Messaging as a Response Medium in Classroom Experiments" (February 2005). Abstract: A major challenge in conducting classroom experiments for larger classes is the complexity of assembling responses and reporting feedback. The author demonstrates how mobile phone text messaging can be used to overcome the limitations of pencil-and-paper experiments without incurring the costs of full computerization. Students submit responses as text messages, which are downloaded into a spreadsheet for automated analysis and feedback by return messaging. Examples are presented of experiments that have successfully been trialed using text messaging as the response medium. These can be run in any room from which the instructor can access the internet, and are designed to economize on both class time and effort to the instructor. Go to article
Facts on voip
- Voice over Internet Protocol (also called VoIP, IP Telephony, Internet telephony, and Digital Phone) is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or any other IP-based network. The voice data flows over a general-purpose packet-switched network, instead of traditional dedicated, circuit-switched voice transmission lines.
- Some broadband connections may have less than desirable reliability. Where IP packets are lost or delayed at any point in the network between VoIP users, there will be a momentary drop-out of voice. This is more noticeable in highly congested networks and/or where there is long distances and/or interworking between end points.
